During our visit to the Mount Vernon location, we were hosted in the Genie Romance Suite, and it completely redefined what a romantic getaway could be.

Mount Vernon Genie Romance Suite Review
For this entire experience, I completely surprised my husband.
He honestly thought we were just staying at a cute little bed and breakfast in a small town north of Columbus.
Having the Genie Romance Suite be upstairs really added to the surprise, because walking up that grand staircase to enter the room made it feel even more special and built up the excitement before he even saw the suite.
This room has twice as many puzzles as some of the other suites, so it’s definitely the one for couples who want a bit more to do.
The living area, sleeping space, and kitchenette all flow together, and most of the bathroom is open too, just the toilet is behind a door, so you still get privacy where you need it.
Living Room Area
When you first walk into the Genie Romance Suite, the living area hits you immediately, and wow, what a first impression.
It’s a little dark at first, with these glowing accent lights setting the mood, and the first thing you notice is this massive wraparound couch.
It’s huge, cozy, and totally immersive in the theme, covered with pillows and surrounded by gorgeous Persian and Arab-inspired decor that makes you feel like you’ve stepped into another world.
Everything about it draws you in and sets the tone for the adventure ahead.
Sultan’s Foot Massage
Later on, part of the escape room experience actually involves the couch!
There are two foot massage stations tucked right in, which are part of one of the puzzles.
And let me tell you, the next morning it was amazing to just sit back, kick up your feet, and watch TV from that spot.
The living area is definitely a highlight and an insane first impression as soon as you walk in.
Bedroom Area
As you move past the living area, the next thing you notice is the hanging, flying carpet bed!
If you choose the add-on, they’ll even spell your name out in rose petals, which is such a sweet touch if you’re surprising your spouse.
It really takes the whole experience over the top.
Later on, part of the escape room challenge actually involves figuring out how to “fly” the bed, which adds a fun, interactive element to the room.
Bathroom Area
The toilet and small sink are behind a sliding door for privacy, but the real showstopper is the sea salt spa bubble bath.

It’s a jetted tub with a rainfall shower right behind a glass door.
It’s the perfect spot to relax after a night of puzzles and adventure, and it really adds a luxurious, romantic touch to the suite without feeling cramped.
Kitchenette
The kitchenette in the Genie Romance Suite is small but really handy.
There’s a sink, a fridge and freezer (ours had a couple water bottles and apple juices), and a little snack basket stocked with Cheez-Its, Nutri-Grain bars, and popcorn.
There’s also a Keurig with coffee pods, a selection of tea, and cups and mugs tucked in the cabinets.
It’s not huge, but it’s got everything you need for a cozy, self-contained stay.

Secret Rooms To Unlock
Now things get really fun!
Tucked throughout the suite are four secret rooms that you don’t see right away.
To get to them, you have to complete the escape room challenges and I can’t wait to show you what we found in each of them.
Flying Carpet Selfie Challenge Room
The first secret room you unlock is such a fun surprise.
After completing a set of challenges, a hidden tunnel opens, and you crawl through to be transported straight to the city of Agrabah.
This room has a selfie challenge where there’s a ring light set up, and you get to dress up in all sorts of Aladdin and Jasmine inspired costumes, complete with headpieces and jewelry.
You can take as many selfies as you want, try different outfits, and really take your time, there’s no rush at all.
The flying carpet prop and the Sultan’s Palace backdrop make it feel like you’ve stepped into the story, and it’s such a playful, immersive start to the secret room adventure.
The Karaoke Room
After solving a few more challenges, you’ll unlock the karaoke room, and this one is such a fun surprise.
There’s a tablet with access to YouTube, so you can pick any karaoke song you want and sing your heart out!
One of the coolest ways to add to the surprise for your spouse is that when you make the reservation, they’ll ask for a favorite song.
I picked “Message in a Bottle”, my husband’s favorite Taylor Swift song.
When you first enter the room, this song will start playing, and your spouse will be blown away once again at the level of thoughtfulness and planning that went into continuing to surprise them all night.
Cupping Therapy Massage Room
After returning to the main room and solving a few more clues, a hidden staircase opens up, leading to the cupping therapy massage room.
When you reach the top, the twinkle lights are glowing, spa music is playing, and there’s a massage table ready for you.
The room has everything you need to try cupping therapy and give each other massages, plus a selection of oils and massage wands to make it even more relaxing.
Like the other secret rooms, you can come back here anytime during your stay and spend as much time as you want.
The Salvador Body Room
The last secret room you’ll unlock is the Salvador Body Room, and this one’s totally optional.
You don’t have to book it in advance, you can just add it on when you’re there.
In this room, you get to paint a canvas with your bodies, and then you get to take it home as a keepsake.
Everything you need is provided, along with tips and instructions to make it fun and creative.
The Chocolate Fondue Experience
There’s also a Chocolate Fondue Experience with whipped cream, sprinkles, and chocolate, which makes it even more playful.
We did both, and it was such a fun, silly surprise that added another personal touch to the whole stay.

Escape Room Tips
The escape room aspect of the Genie Romance Suite is such a unique part of the stay, but there are a few things to keep in mind before you go.
There are hidden tunnels, secret staircases, and even a slide, so you do need to be fairly able-bodied to enjoy everything.
Stairwells are tight and winding, and you’ll be crawling through tunnels and moving between different levels, plus optional activities like the body painting require a bit of mobility.
There’s also no time limit to solve the puzzles and clues.
Unlike traditional escape rooms where you feel rushed, here you can take your time and enjoy figuring things out at your own pace.
They do provide QR codes for hints at each puzzle in case you need them, but we didn’t use a single one, we just relied on our own problem-solving.
If you’re new to escape rooms, you might use some hints, but experienced puzzlers will love the relaxed pace.
Overall, it’s a fun, immersive experience that really adds to the surprise and adventure of the stay.
Our Overall Experience
Overall, this stay was the perfect way to surprise my husband, and he had absolutely no idea what was coming.
He had no clue it was an escape room hotel or that it would be this immersive, themed experience with so many different activities.
Some of the highlights were discovering the secret tunnels and staircases, going down the slide, and exploring all the hidden rooms.
The personal touches, like our names in flower petals, our favorite song in the karaoke room, and the optional add-ons like body painting and chocolate fondue, made it feel extra special.
The jacuzzi-style bubble bath with bath salts, the rainfall shower, and the king-size flying carpet bed were all incredible, and the robes they provide made it feel really cozy.
In the morning, we got to play around a bit more and enjoy the extra touches.
My husband was completely blown away by how much went into this surprise, and it was just such a fun, all-out way to treat him to something totally unexpected, not for an anniversary or birthday, but just for the sheer joy of it.

Things To Do Nearby In Mount Vernon
The Mount Vernon location is right along the main street of town, which is this charming historic downtown with a little public square.
It’s the perfect spot for a romantic evening stroll before or after your stay.
They usually recommend checking in around 5 p.m. and starting the first half of the escape room challenges before heading out to dinner, but we actually ate dinner first since we like to eat early and didn’t want to backtrack.
Where To Eat Dinner: The Alcove
For dinner, we highly recommend The Alcove, which a few years ago was actually ranked one of the top 100 restaurants in the country.
It’s fine dining, but because it’s small-town Ohio, it’s not crazy expensive like what we were used to when living in California.
The restaurant has a George Washington Mount Vernon theme in the decor, with chandeliers and blue velvet seating, and it’s absolutely beautiful.
We started with the chorizo dates (dates stuffed with chorizo and wrapped in bacon) and tried the General Washington cocktail, their take on an Old Fashioned.
For our main course, we shared the 16 oz bone-out ribeye, which comes with a house salad and a side.
We added black pepper Parmesan risotto and lobster mac and cheese as sides.
Portions at restaurants are always huge, so sharing is definitely the way to go, and everything was delicious.
Antique Shopping
The next day, after checking out, we spent some time exploring the other end of downtown.
There’s a really cute antique shop we loved poking around in.
We always try to check these out everywhere we go to find unique items
Where To Eat Lunch: Bickerdyke Table & Tap Room
Since checkout isn’t until 11 am, I also recommend staying for lunch.
We went to the Bickerdyke Table and Tap Room and loved it.
I had the hummus and tzatziki plate with warm garlic naan, cucumbers, and carrot sticks, and we also shared the Bickerdyke smash burger with fries.
Both were fantastic, and again, the portions are generous, so we skipped dessert but left completely satisfied.
