Want to know what the Beachwoods Resort in the Outer Banks is like?
We recently did a 2 night stay in a 1 bedroom at Beachwoods Resort in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina.
The room appeared to be recently renovated and was actually quite similar in style to the Aqua Sol resort in Orlando.
It is perfectly situated right in the middle of the Outer Banks, making it an easy and accessible drive to anywhere you’d want to go.
Beachwoods Resort Review
In the 5+ years I’ve been a timeshare owner with Diamond Resorts (which is now part of the Hilton Vacation Club) I never knew that there was a resort in the Outer Banks.
There are a lot of resorts that are technically part of the timeshare program but you have to pay exchange fees and all kinds of other costs to actually use it, but Beachwoods was just a regular timeshare resort where we could use our points at a reasonable cost.
Oddly enough, it’s tucked away behind a shopping center, but on the other side of the resort it’s actually tucked away against a nature preserve.
The resort is not on the beach, but it is across the street.
They have an exclusive, free parking lot at the beach for guests though, where you just scan your room key as a parking pass.

One Bedroom
Now for a little bit about the room itself.
At the top of this post there is a Youtube video with a walk-through tour of the room if you just want a quick glance at the room.
The video is only a couple minutes long.
One thing to note about this resort is that every unit has steps leading up to it.
This is because pretty much every building in the Outer Banks is up on stilts, so the first floor isn’t actually any sort of livable space.
There are also no elevators, so if you’re higher than the 2nd level, it’ll take a bit of work to get your luggage up to your room.
Luckily, we were on the 2nd level.
Another interesting set up with this resort, that we also experienced at the Historic Powhatan Resort in Williamsburg, Virginia, is that the units share an entry way.
Let me explain.
Our room was 201A and next to us was 201B.
Inside, there is a door that is dead-bolted that connects these 2 together, but it can be opened if someone books a larger room type for their stay.
Because they’re essentially 2 rooms in one, they share an entry door and then once you get inside the door, each unit has its own additional entry door.
All of these doors require specific room keys.
So because we were in 201A, we had access to the 201 door and the 201A door.
The people next to us also had access to the 201 door, but also the 201B door that was just for them.
It can be a little awkward if you run into your neighbors, but we didn’t have any issues.

Living Room
When you enter the unit, the first thing you see is the living room.
The living room also has a pretty closet the second you walk in the door.
I thought it would be the laundry, but this resort did not have in-unit laundry.
Other than that, the living room is spacious and looks pretty new.
There is a pull out sofa and a tv in there.
There is also a door that leads out to the balconies/porches.
Dining Room
The dining room is open and directly connected to the living room.
The table is quite large for a one bedroom, but great if you have extra people in the room or you’re staying with a group that has multiple rooms.
Kitchen
The kitchen is pretty tight, but there is a lot of counter space and it’s a full kitchen.
There is a full sized refrigerator and freezer, stove, sink, and dishwasher.
Some other kitchen basics are always stocked in the room like a coffee machine, plates, bowls, cups, utensils, cookware, etc.
You can always bring your own things if you want or call the front desk and ask if they have anything you’re missing.
Bedroom
The bedroom is in the back of the unit and is pretty large.
It has a good sized tv and a king bed.
One thing that has bothered me with hotel rooms is that when they upgraded several years ago, they started incorporating outlets into lamps and other stuff like that.
Most phone and laptop charging bricks are too wide, so the lamp has to be propped up on the brick for it to plug in.
Also many devices don’t use the traditional USB plugs anymore because they’ve all converted to USB-C.
We personally always have converters with us so we can adjust to whichever type we need, but not everyone does.
Bathroom
The main bathroom in this room connects through the bedroom and the hallway outside the bedroom, so it’s accessible for anyone in the unit.
This bathroom has a shower, but not a bath tub.
Also the water pressure in the shower is terrible.
It’s a small thing, but it really makes a big difference and it’s something I always notice about every place we stay.
There’s also a toilet and counter top with a sink in this bathroom.
The mirror is just over the sink, so the “getting ready” area is actually pretty small, but the extra counter space is still useful.
2nd Bathroom
Even though this room was just a one bedroom unit, it had a 2nd full bathroom off of the kitchen and living room area.
This bathroom is somewhat small, but it has a bathtub, shower, toilet, and sink.
It’s a good guest bathroom and it’s good for just being able to get ready at the same time as someone else without them hogging up the bathroom.
Sitting Area
Between the kitchen and the bedroom is a sitting area with a pullout couch.
This is where the door is that connects to the neighboring unit if you book a larger room type.
There’s no tv or anything really in this little nook, but it can sleep 1-2 extra people in their own little space, so that’s a perk.
Outdoor Space
These rooms all have very large balcony spaces that wrap around about half of the room.
Ours was accessible from the living room, but then once we were on the balcony, there was another door outside for a separate balcony area that’s in front of the bedroom.
Only the main balcony area had a table, chairs, fan, and light.
The balcony is also accessible from outside of the room, which we found odd.
It has a lock on it, but if anyone wanted to get in they could.
Overall Experience
The location is very convenient because it’s in the center of everywhere we wanted to go.
The welcome center and main amenities were also very nice.
They had an indoor pool area, but we weren’t at the resort long enough to enjoy it.
Each of the buildings is pretty spread out throughout the resort, which is kind of nice for noise.
But if you like to hang out at resorts and enjoy all the amenities, you might find it easier to drive up to the front to enjoy everything.
I prefer resorts that are easily walkable to enjoy everything.
The rooms were surprisingly large and seemed practically like new.

Resort Pricing
Even though this is a timeshare resort, anybody can stay here.
It’s always available on whatever booking site you like to use for your hotel stays.
The only difference is that for guests paying cash, there is a $30+ per night resort fee on top of the room rate and the deposit hold for your stay is $200.
You get that deposit back as long as you didn’t trash the room, just like with any other hotel.
Another thing too is that timeshare resorts do 10 am check out times instead of 11 am – 12 pm like most hotels.
As far as the room pricing goes, I’ve seen the 1 bedroom go for anywhere from $250-$450 per night during the same time as my stay.
I would imagine in the off-season you can probably get these rooms for closer to $150 per night.

Using Timeshare Points For Your Stay
Because we own a timeshare with Diamond Resorts, which is now Hilton Vacation Club, we used points for our stay.
We stayed mid-week in the middle of May – between Mother’s Day and Memorial Day, so it wasn’t a particularly busy time.
Our stay cost 600 points for 2 nights in a 1 bedroom.
For reference, we have 7500 points a year, which usually lasts us about 25 nights a year, though the sales people will tell you that’s only enough for a week.
But if I break down the cost of what we’ve paid for our timeshare, the 600 points we used for 2 nights was the equivalent of $313.70, or $156.85 per night.
That’s about on par with what we budget for regular hotel stays.
We try to keep costs under $125-$150 per night.
But there’s another calculation we factor into the price too and that’s all the freebies we’ve been given back by our timeshare like free points, Visa gift cards, etc.
If we factor those into the price, then really it was only $237.68 for the whole stay or just $118.84 per night.
To have a one bedroom with a full kitchen, 2nd full bathroom, free parking, and free beach parking, that’s a great deal!
Conclusion: Beachwoods Resort Review
Beachwoods is definitely one of the nicer resorts that the Hilton Vacation Club acquired from Diamond Resorts.
The rooms are insanely spacious for being one bedrooms and having the extra full bathroom is fantastic.
The points were so worth the cost of what we got and having the free beach parking available to guests is a great perk.
This resort was centrally located to everything we wanted to do in the Outer Banks and we didn’t have any issues with our stay.
I just wish the water pressure was better in the showers!
