Want to know what it’s like to stay at Hilton Cincinnati Netherland Plaza?
Hilton Cincinnati Netherland Plaza is a 1930s French Art Deco era historic landmark hotel.
It’s located right in the middle of downtown Cincinnati and centrally located to all the best attractions, activities, and restaurants.
The 1931 is their iconic restaurant seen in the thumbnail of the Youtube video below.

Hilton Cincinnati Netherland Plaza Review
For a recent birthday trip, my husband and I stayed 1 night at Hilton Cincinnati Netherland Plaza.
We wanted to be in walking distance of the restaurants and attractions we had planned to visit during our weekend stay, but also stay somewhere affordable.
Historic or boutique hotels are always my first choice when looking to stay somewhere new and this hotel has all of that.
It felt like going back in time to hotels you would see from Hollywood’s golden age of films.
The elevators have a lot of original features, but have been well preserved and maintained.
Additionally, the hallways leading to the rooms are painted in a very light jewel tone that reflects the chandeliers very nicely.
It feels very luxurious and historic all throughout.

Hotel Parking
The valet parking garage right under the hotel fills up frequently, but at the next parking garage entrance there is self parking.
There should be a valet attendant there to direct you where to go when they’re full.
Parking is not paid through the hotel, but the garage is directly connected to the hotel lobby, so it’s still considered “hotel parking”.
There is no complimentary parking at the hotel since it’s in a congested part of downtown, but that’s to be expected with any parking in a larger city.

Queen Room
While my preference would have been a King room, they don’t usually have very many available.
The Queen room was still suitable for my husband and I to have plenty of space in the bed to sprawl out.
Even though the rooms are pretty compact, the high ceilings make it seem much larger.

The bathroom has just enough space for a shower, bathroom sink, and toilet.
There’s not a larger vanity where you can set many things down in the bathroom.
When we checked in, the front desk agent let us know that since the hotel is so old, sometimes there are issues with the hot water.
She said to let the hot water run in the shower and the sink for at least 15 minutes before calling the front desk about it because sometimes it just takes that long.
We didn’t have any issues with hot water during our stay.

We had a downtown view from our room, but there should also be rooms on higher floors where you can see the river and the stadiums.
Additionally, if you join Hilton’s free Hilton Honors rewards program, you’ll get 2 complimentary bottles of water during your visit, which are always nice to have.
There is a mini-fridge under the tv, so you can chill the water as well.
There is also a coffee maker and you can use that water to make yourself coffee or tea in the morning too.

The 1931 Restaurant
We don’t normally eat at restaurant hotels since they’re pretty generic and overpriced, but the focal point of the entire hotel is in this restaurant.
There is also a bar area inside the restaurant that I also recommend checking out.
During our visit, there was a live jazz band, very reminiscent of the theme of 1931 French Art Deco design.

While I would have loved to try their dessert menu, we were too full from our dinner to get anything else.
The Petite Filet of Beef with mashed potatoes and charred broccolini was so good!

We also had a couple drinks with our dinner since it was a celebratory visit.
My husband’s go-to drink is always an Old Fashioned.
I tend to stick with trying different wines as much as possible.

Fun Things To Do In Cincinnati
Most visitors are likely in town for professional sports with the Reds’ Great American Ballpark and the Bengals’ Paycor Stadium right along the river, but there are lots of other reasons to visit Cincinnati.
I’ve created a great day trip itinerary with some of Cincinnati’s best hidden gems like the American Sign Museum and the William Howard Taft National Historic Site that I took my husband to on one of his first visits here.
I also recommend visiting the Cincinnati Zoo.
On this particular trip though, we were celebrating my birthday, so the day started at the Inner Peace Organic Spa where I did a great (and affordable) spa package with a Swedish massage, Reiki, infrared spa, and ionic foot bath.
Then, we got some birthday freebies from different rewards programs I’m in like Landry’s Select Club (McCormick & Schmick’s) and Graeter’s Ice Cream.
We ended the day with an escape room at The Escape Game with a bunch of my family and dinner at Yard House.
